Amid protests, Bolivia revokes law limiting state of emergency powers
President Rodrigo Paz of Bolivia enacted, on Wednesday (27), the repeal of Law 1341, which had limited the powers of the president to declare a state of emergency — a mechanism through which the government assumes exceptional powers and partially suspends the normal rules of the rule of law.

The enactment came just hours after the measure was approved by Bolivia’s Chamber of Deputies. Lawmakers revoked the provision during an online session late Tuesday night (26).
