For decades, heatwaves, wildfires, droughts and volcanic eruptions were viewed primarily as environmental events. In 2026, however, a succession of emergencies across several continents has revealed a much broader reality. The impact of climate change and extreme natural events now reaches far beyond meteorology, challenging the ability of governments to protect fundamental human rights and fulfill their responsibilities toward vulnerable populations.
