In April 2026, while daily life continued among mines, forests and small communities in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a new chapter in the history of Ebola began silently. The first identified case emerged in the Mongbwalu region, in Ituri province, involving a healthcare worker who developed high fever, severe weakness and hemorrhagic symptoms before dying at a medical center in Bunia.
