On June 5, 2028, the U.S. military is expected to begin selecting the panel that will try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and three co-defendants over the September 11, 2001 attacks. If the date holds, nearly 27 years will have passed since four hijacked airplanes changed American history and ushered in a new era of global security.
