It learned to move armies across continents, project power across oceans, coordinate operations through satellites, and develop weapons capable of striking targets from great distances. Technology changed, political rhetoric evolved, and the actors themselves came and went. What remained remarkably constant was the belief that some conflicts simply have to be won.
